Tonight I found Gandalf in my family tree.

You may be wondering about his curiously long life (700-1579).
This is obviously because wizards live longer than humans.

And curious that there is no death date or place...

This find does a lot to explain why I feel compelled to do things like this.

Other notable finds of the evening:

• Earl Malcolm II MacHeth of Moray, who lived in the Orkney Islands (yeah Orkney!) and was killed trying to regain the Scots throne.
• St. Margaret Queen of Scotland, who died in Edinburgh Castle (been there!)
• Duncan I King of Scotland who (and I quote) was "killed by Macbeth in Bothganowan, Elgin in 1040"
• Vivill "the Snow-King" from Ringrike, Norway
• Charlemagne Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Emperor. (Love how they say Emperor twice. Like, "Charlemagne...as in the Emperor-of-the-Holy-Roman-Empire Emperor.)

a sleepover

tonight my little sister melissa (aka: one of the coolest kids ever born) is coming to sleepover.  when i asked her what she wanted to do at the sleepover, this is what she said:

well, i want to make muddy buddies, and then put on makeup, and then watch a barbie movie!  or.....maybe not a barbie movie but one of my favorite movies i'll bring it.  and then i want to sleep on the couch--the little one--and you can sleep on the big one!  and then in the morning we can eat breakfast, just like.....cereal or somethin....and then let's do a puzzle i'll bring it.  


meliss, that sounds like so much fun!  is there anything else you want to do?

weeeelllllll, you are going to think this is a silly thing, but i really like it when big kids give me hard math problems to solve, and then i solve them.

five reasons why i am part of the happiest group of sisters in the world

2. sometimes we play dress up with glasses and popped-out lenses and big black hats.

3. we have a creek in our backyard.

4. rosie always makes gross faces in the backgrounds of pictures. (sorry for calling your faces gross, rosie, but there really is no other word for it.)

5. sometimes, on really special nights, melissa will dress up in a zorro costume and chase grace through the house. her eyes often flash red on such occasions.
